I forgot to take some pictures of the transmission before I attached it to the engine, so here is a picture after it was attached and dropped onto the chassis.

The transmission had been rebuilt several years previously but didn't have many miles so I decided to just reseal it and paint it. I purchased a gasket and seal kit from Fatsco Transmission Parts.

Since my car is an XL and has the shifter on the floor, and the transmission that I am using is from a non XL car with the shifter on the column, the shifter shaft on the transmission is different. There are instructions on the Galaxie Club of America website for making an adapter for this, but I figured since I had the seals and wanted to replace them, I would switch the shaft/lever and put in an XL version from my original transmission. This entails taking some of the internal parts of the transmission out to get the shifter shaft/lever out of the transmission. I got it back together and I hope it still works. I then thoroughly cleaned the transmission. The bellhousing and tailshaft housing is painted with Eastwood's Alumablast. The case is painted first with POR 15 and then with POR 15 Metal Mask.
